FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ann Lemond-Hume Named Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of Lola Louis’ Creative & Performing Arts, Inc.
Honoring and Continuing the Legacy of the Late Founder Lola Lenore Louis
Bronx, NY – September 6, 2024 – Lola Louis’ Creative and Performing Arts, Inc. (CAPAS), a vital resource for arts education in the Northeast Bronx, is proud to announce that Ann Lemond-Hume, a former student and assistant for over 40 years, has been named the new Chairman of the Board and Executive Director.
Founded by the late Lola Lenore Louis, a trained actress, director, singer, pianist, and ethnic folk dancer, CAPAS has been a beacon of creativity and empowerment for underserved youth. Lola, originally from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, was a passionate advocate for using the arts as a tool to uplift young people, helping them overcome “limitation thinking” and guiding many toward careers in theater, Broadway, film, and television.
Ann Lemond-Hume, who has been deeply involved with the studio for decades, is committed to continuing Lola’s mission. “Lola believed in the power of the arts to transform lives, and I’m honored to carry forward her vision,” said Ann. “We will continue to nurture young talent while building a stronger community foundation.”
CAPAS aims to develop the minds, bodies, and spirits of children (four years old and up) and adults by utilizing the creative arts process. The organization fosters artistic skills in a supportive environment that encourages creative fun and freedom of artistic expression.
Under Ann’s leadership, CAPAS will focus on securing a permanent studio space and organizing a series of fundraisers to ensure the studio’s growth and sustainability. Plans are also underway to produce excerpts from Lola Louis’ play, The Children’s Legacy, next summer. The studio will continue to offer its core classes in piano, ballet, tap, modern dance, guitar, voice, drums, and acting, fostering excellence, personal growth, and community service.
New Board Leadership
Alongside Ann Lemond-Hume, the CAPAS Board includes Garrick Louis’, Vice Chairman, Renée Lemond, Treasurer, and Margaret Walker-Cumberbatch, Secretary. Together, they bring a wealth of experience in the arts, education, and community outreach, ensuring that CAPAS continues to thrive and fulfill its mission.
